Pickering, ON – May 17, 2006 – Proforma Synergy and promotional products vendor Leed’s Worldwide have partnered with Can-Teach to sponsor an initiative to help underprivileged children in El Salvador. Can-Teach is a local organization of teachers from the Kitchener-Waterloo areas committed to assisting the Doroteo Vasconcelos School in San Salvador.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to help those less fortunate," begins Patrick Doyle, Owner of Proforma Synergy, a graphic communications and business solutions provider. "A good friend of mine contacted me about the Can-Teach program and mentioned that the program was in need of materials for the schools. My experience has been that many of the promotional items I sell can also be useful teaching tools. So, I turned to Erin Harris at Leed’s Worldwide to see what we could do."
Proforma Synergy and Leed’s Worldwide were able to arrange for the donation of calculators, notebooks and radios for the project. In April, Can-Teach took these items on their mission trip to El Salvador where they were distributed to school children at an assembly of parents. Can-Teach also used several of the items to create packages for six students who have been recognized for excelling academically at the national level.
Doyle hopes to support Can-Teach with additional supplies in the future. He says that he is looking into involving service organizations and hopes to spread it on a larger scale in the coming years. "The work that Can-Teach is doing really makes you step back and think about the privileges we take for granted," says Doyle.
